Karen

North Carolina Chair

Karen Strausser

Karen began her handbell career in 1982 ringing with her church's high school choir. In the late 80's she joined the Hussite Ringers under the direction of James Salzwedel (former AGEHR President) and rang with the Hussite Ensemble for two years. In the early 90's, Karen had the privilege of joining the Rejoice Ringers under the direction of Debbie Rice, current AGEHR President. Karen continues to ring in various positions in this group.

In 2003, Karen accepted the position of Handbell Director of Konnoak Hills Moravian Church in Winston-Salem. She currently directs three handbell choirs: Alpha and Omega Ringers - an intergenerational choir, Lamb of God Ringers - a youth choir and the Sonshine Ringers - mentally challenged women from the Stockton Street Group Home.

Karen is married to Dave (a handbell roadie) and they have three daughters, Rebekah, Rachel and Ruthie - all handbell ringers! Karen works at Messiah Moravian Church as the Office Manager and in her spare time she enjoys reading, crafting, camping and Girl Scouts.

Karen would love to hear from NC members (and non-members!) of the Guild especially with any comments, questions or concerns you may have!
