Read about a new composition contest, local handbell concerts and workshops, the upcoming Area III Youth Festival Conference and 2006 Spring Festival Conferences, and a source for a few free handbell score downloads. Best wishes to all of you starting your Fall ringing seasons.

    The Area III ByLaws Revision passed (thanks to all who voted,) and the new slate of Board Members is currently being voted upon. Please send in your ballot postmarked by September 24!!

    Area III Welcomes Entries from All Composers for a Composition to be Premiered at Their 2007 Festivals.
     
    General Guidelines
    * Two compatible scores: 2-3 and 3-5 Octaves
    * Level 2+ or 3
    * Two to Four minutes for performance
    * Original and Unpublished
    * Appropriate for massed ringing for youth and adult festivals
     
    SUBMISSION DEADLINE: June 1, 2006
     
    PRIZE: $700

    A day filled with fun, music, handbell ringing, scrumptious desserts, and a Tapestry Concert.
     
    Tapestry, a handbell quartet ministry sponsored by Monumental United Methodist Church in Portsmouth, Virginia, and the Monumental Ringers are hosting their third "Invitational" for handbell ringers and musicians who would like to learn about handbell ringing. Using some of the music from the Genesis Track for the 2006 AGEHR festival at the Hampton Conference Center, we will focus on advanced beginning ringing, basic techniques, handbell exercises, and ministry. Music will be available for use at the workshop, and also for purchase. The workshop fee per ringer of $20 is non-refundable, but transferable. The fee covers the morning session and afternoon sessions, and a concert from Tapestry. The clinicians for the class sessions will be Charm Peterman, director of handbell ministries at Monumental UMC, and Marjorie Setnicky, Director of Music Ministries at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Suffolk. Please bring a bag lunch. Drinks and dessert will be provided.
     
    * If you have handbells, please bring your bells, pads, mallets, chimes, and music stands--tables will be supplied.
     
    * If you do not have handbells, we have space and a set of handbells available for 12 ringers on a first-come basis.
