Welcome to the October 2007 issue of RingTouch, Area III’s electronic newsletter with announcements, notices and information for all those interested  in the handbell happenings of Area III AGEHR (American Guild of English Handbell Ringers) - North Carolina, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland and Metro-Washington DC.  Please send any pertinent announcements to the address noted at the bottom by  the first of each month. All submissions may be used and edited at the editor's  discretion.

  • Area III Spring Festivals - Hampton, Va.  and  Ocean City, Md. Both offer the Level 2/3 Massed Ringing Track and the separate  Genesis Track for advanced beginning choirs. Everyone takes advantage of the  superior classes Area III is famous for.  Registration now  open.

Kathie Fink will present “Legacy,” a solo handbell concert and  tribute to her father, Larry Fink Sr. and the Fink Family Handbell Ringers,  accompanied on the piano by her sister-in-law Sharon Fink. The free concert will  include TV clips from 1963-65 of the Fink family and historical interviews with  Larry and his wife, Wilma. Kathie Fink began ringing handbells with her family  when she was nine years old. Today she is a founding member and current ringer  of Sonos Handbell Ensemble in the San Francisco Bay Area. Come laugh at the early television recordings, be moved by Kathie's solo ringing musicality, and refresh your spirit with the timeless classics of the faith. An offering will be  taken. Area III Composers join the Circus!

 Area III composers made a grand showing in the "Big Top" as Bells of the Sound announced their recent contest winners.  The theme was "Three Ring Circus," and the entrees were judged on Audience appeal; Playability; Following the Theme; Musicality; and Creativity.  The winning composition as well as several other contest submissions will be premiered at Bells of the Sound's concert series in Spring 2008. Raleigh Ringers - News

The Raleigh Ringers Receive Award

The Raleigh Ringers has been selected as one of the recipients of the Raleigh Medal of Arts.  There have only been 120 recipients in the award's 24-year history. 

The Medal of Arts is bestowed each year to groups or individuals from Raleigh that have made exemplary contributions to the arts community through performance or in support of the arts.

The other 2007 winners are the North Carolina Symphony, The North Carolina Theater, Progress Energy, Rory Parnell and Melissa Podcasy.  The award ceremony is November 14th at Fletcher Hall, in the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts.

The Raleigh Ringers Acquire Rehearsal Space

Second, as of September 26, 2007, The Raleigh Ringers are the owner of their own rehearsal and storage space - a 2400 square foot flex unit in Raleigh.  Moving in planned by the end of October.
