News from the Chair - Board Meeting Notes
In the September issue of The Bell-O-Gram, we announced that the magazine was about to join
other AGEHR areas and switch to electronic distribution, and it is now online!
We appreciate your positive
response to The Bell-O-Gram going online. This decision is saving Area III close to $9000 a year in printing
and mailing costs. The financial status of Area III was adversely affected by lower participation numbers at the 2008
spring festivals. The board had to take action to ensure the continuing financial health of the area and the programs
we feel are important for the benefit of our members and future handbell ringers. To help the handbell community
grow, some of the ways we utilize our funds include:
-
supporting growth and development through ongoing educational events offered
annually
-
supporting the scholarship program for those financially unable to attend events
-
supplying equipment/instructional aids for those without bell programs through the chime
loaner program
-
supporting the continuing development of Area III
-
supporting the National Guild and its high standards of continuing education
-
supporting future ends (programs/outreach) for Area III
At last month’s Area III Board meeting, the AGEHR was compared to National Public Radio: if
people feel that what the organization offers to the public is worthwhile, they will support it with their gifts and
membership. Part of what you get as a member is the satisfaction of giving and supporting others through your
membership and attending events. Those of us who have been members for many years know the tremendous value of the
national organization, which is leading the way for our instrument!
Thank you for your support for AGEHR!
Please be sure to keep your e-mail address and other contact information updated with the national office, by logging
into the AGEHR website and going to "Manage My Account" to
receive notices and links for future issues of The Bell-O-Gram.
Those of you without internet access
at home or through work may have a black-and-white photocopy of the online version sent to you upon request; please
contact me at 757-766-8658. We need to keep photocopies to an absolute minimum and appreciate your cooperation.
Many thanks!
